What is SLIDES?

SLIDES is a lightweight, shipboard digital-signage platform. It turns any browser-capable display into a live information board, keeping passengers and crew informed without relying on broadcast TV or complex infrastructure.

Run one or many displays from a single onboard server. Each screen can share common content or follow zone-specific schedules and layouts.

Pulls weather forecasts, vessel position/SOG/COG from AIS, news headlines, stock indices, and even live map overlays — all refreshed automatically.

Built-in caching, master/replica coordination and rate-limit handling minimise external bandwidth use on expensive or slow satellite connections.

Capabilities & Features

🌤️ Live Weather

Open-Meteo integration provides current conditions, H+6 forecast grids, sunrise/sunset and pressure data for the vessel's location.

🛰️ AIS Tracking

Own-vessel position, course and speed from AISHub or a local TCP NMEA feed, with track history stored locally.

🗺️ Map Overlays

Leaflet-based map with weather grid vectors and operating-area restrictions. Tile proxy caches map imagery to reduce bandwidth.

📰 News & Markets

Optional scrolling ticker for top headlines (NewsAPI) and major stock indices (Finnhub), cached and refreshed on a schedule.

🤖 AI Content

Optional Gemini-powered generation of location-aware slide decks, with Unsplash imagery, automatically refreshed as the ship moves.

⏰ Scheduling

Time-, day-, date- and zone-based schedules let you change slides, scrolling text and layouts automatically throughout the day.

🚨 Emergency Override

Instant full-screen emergency alerts with optional acknowledgement tracking across all connected displays.

🌐 Guest Intranet

A separate captive-portal-friendly view for passenger Wi-Fi landing pages, showing weather and location without admin access.
