Weather Fax 2000 ICOM M710 -802 series remote control update.


We now have added support for the ICOM M802 M710, M700 Pro and M710 RT to our demodulator and sound card editions. Support for the PTCII edition will follow in due course.

This software has only been tested with the ICOMM802 and  M710 so far.

Ensure you have:

§    an RS232 serial cable to suit your radio, available from your radio supplier – Please review instructions at the end of this document.

§    a spare COM port on your computer, in addition to the one used for your WeatherFax 2000 demodulator.

To adapt a laptop or notebook computer with only one COM port, ask your dealer about COM port expanders which use either the USB port or PCMCIA slot.


To enable direct radio control:

1.    Use the Configuration menu and select Reception Properties.

2.    Check the Radio Interface box and click OK.

3.    When the Radio Connection dialog displays, select

§    the COM port where your radio serial cable is connected
(this must be different to the COM port where your WeatherFax 2000 demodulator is connected)

§    the type of radio you are connecting – select the model from the dropdown list..

4.    Click OK and wait until prompted to restart, then close WeatherFax 2000.

5.    Close any other software which uses your radio or the COM ports you have set for weather fax input and radio control, before your restart WeatherFax 2000.

6.    When you restart WeatherFax 2000, the Frequency Control displays. Refer to Using radio control functions within WeatherFax 2000 for details.

Radio Configuration

The ICOM series receivers have a unique ID configurable in the Radio setup panel. The factory default setting should be used.  This is: M802 =8 M710 = 1 M700 Pro =2 M710 RT= 3.


Hooking up the radio

The M700 Pro and M710 require a special DB9 Male to DB9 Female cable.

The M802 and M710RT uses a standard 9-pin RS-232 connector on the front of the transceiver.

ICOM M710 series control cable description

The cable is a DB9 Female on computer end and a DB9 Male on the tranceiver end. On the computer side pins 8 and 7 and pins 1, 4 and 6 are connected together. Pin  5 on the Computer is connected to pins 6,8 and 9 on the radio. Pin 2 on the computer is connected to pin 7 on the radio. Pin 3 on the computer is connected to pin 5 on the transceiver.
